Who we are

There are over 1.5 million girls and boys around the Northern Province of Sierra Leone who do not have access to education, skills, employment and better livelihood.

With time running out until the end of 2015, progress has stalled on the task outlined in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

We must ensure every youth’s basic right be realised. With the number of out-of-school and unemployed youth on the rise, A World at School is magnifying the efforts of all organisations working to get all children into school and learning.

We are here to make education the number one priority.

We are a regional organisation with a diverse team from several districts in the Northern Province. We have offices in Makeni, Magburaka, Kabala, Port Loko and Kambia districts.

Launched in 2011, we are now a movement of zealous and determined youths from more than 250 communities which includes, teachers, faiths, youth, business and community groups and or organisations.

We have 250 youth ambassadors campaigning in more than 5 districts across the Northern Provincial area. We believe youth empowerment is the key to opportunity and the right of every child and youth.

What we do

We make noise and champion the work done to accelerate progress in children and youth empowerment, education and livelihood.

We share stories, highlight challenges and make the call for children and youth empowerment, education and livelihood, an undeniable voice on the world stage.

We find ways to get things done. By identifying ways in which we can help more children and youth go to school, be empowered and self-developed, we turn to our network to mobilise support.

We engage with non-governmental, governments and the international communities. By ensuring the most recent data and policy recommendations are front and centre - and ready for action.

We champion progress, by keeping our network informed about the good news on the ground.

We form a relentless campaign that will not stop until every child and youth is in school and learning, in increasing the economic, political, social, educational, gender, or spiritual strength of an entity or entities, in means of securing the basic necessities -food, water, shelter and clothing- of life.

How we do it

We partner with youths and adults. Our Youth Ambassadors programme brings together hundreds of change makers leading the campaign.

We work with all sectors, including business leaders, faiths organisations, NGOs and social justice campaigns.

We co-ordinate campaigns and forge collaborations where we see an opportunity to make progress for children and youth. And we work with organisations focused on health, human rights, gender rights, child and youth labour and more.

We showcase stories from our partners to give you the full picture about what is happening across the region.

We target communities with most children and youths out of school, unemployed, underdeveloped, in difficult life circumstances, underprivileged and impoverished to make sure that education, empowerment and livelihood be priorities for the local government and councils, and that the voices of our children and youths are heard.

We use latest data and research to make sure our recommendations are the best way to ensure children and youths are empowered and sustainably developed.

We turn up the pressure by holding everyone accountable to the global timeline. The international community set the goal of the end of 2015 and our Countdown campaign holds the national community accountable.
